From 31 August to 3 September 2026, the National Support Centre for Agriculture (KOWR) and participating businesses showcased food products and pet food at the “Poland tastes good” national stand at Fine Food Australia, the continent’s largest food industry event. Held for more than 40 years, the fair alternates between Sydney and Melbourne. This year marked our debut at Fine Food Australia in Melbourne.
Poland tastes good comes to Melbourne
Eight companies exhibited under the “Poland tastes good” banner at the national stand in Melbourne, seeking importers and distributors in Australia and Oceania for products including processed cheese, milk powders, fish products, freeze-dried fruit and vegetables, not-from-concentrate (NFC) juices, honey with freeze-dried fruit, hummus and vegetable snacks, as well as dog and cat food.
The Polish companies at the national stand were visited by Karolina Cemka, Chargée d’Affaires a.i. at the Polish Embassy in Canberra, and Marzena Krajniewska, an expert at PAIH’s Foreign Trade Office in Sydney.
Fine Food Australia offers an excellent opportunity to discover local market trends and new products. The fair also enables participants to connect with local food distributors and importers, restaurant and café owners, and chefs.
Additional opportunities to build business contacts
Polish companies attending Fine Food Australia also took part in a side event on 1 September, which provided opportunities to establish business contacts with local partners. The networking event was organised in cooperation with PAIH’s Foreign Trade Office in Sydney and the Polish Australian Chamber of Commerce (PACC).
Why consider Australia?
Despite its geographical distance from Poland, Australia is a promising export market for Polish agri-food products. The country is both a major food exporter and a significant importer. Its ethnically diverse population creates substantial demand for products imported from around the world.
Poland is among the leading European Union exporters of agri-food products to Australia. The free trade agreement (FTA) between the EU and Australia is expected to provide fresh impetus for trade in the coming years. Negotiations lasted eight years and concluded on 24 March 2026.
Polish agri-food exports to Australia
Despite numerous restrictions, Polish food exports to Australia have been growing rapidly for well over a decade. They rose from EUR 21 million in 2010 to EUR 166 million in 2025. Australia was therefore one of the most important non-EU destinations for Polish agri-food exports in 2025.
The leading categories of Polish agri-food exports to Australia in 2025 were:
- fish products, mainly salmon, but also herring, sardines and other fish: 32%;
- confectionery: 17%;
- coffee, tea and cocoa: 12%;
- cereal and flour preparations: 11%;
- sugar syrups: 6%.
