The 100th anniversary edition of the Grüne Woche (Green Week) international trade fair of the food, agriculture and horticulture sectors began in Berlin on 16 January 2026. The KOWR is once again organising a national stand there, but this year with a record area of 749 m². Together with the KOWR, 8 Province Marshal Offices are participating in the fair under the slogan ‘Polen schmeckt’ (Poland tastes good). Berliners and other visitors coming in large numbers to the fair have the opportunity to experience regional products and offers from Lower Silesia, Kuyavia and Pomerania, Lubuskie Region, Lodz Region, Mazovia, Pomerania, Wielkopolska and West Pomerania.
During the 10 days of the fair, which will last until Sunday, 25 January, the best products from their regions will be exhibited by a total of over 80 Polish businesses, presenting a wide range of Polish food and beverages to German consumers, including fish and fish products (sprats, herring, cod liver, paprikash), cold cuts and smoked meats, dairy products, pierogi, mushroom preserves, honey and bee products, dried fruit and vegetables, plums and other fruit in chocolate, jams, juices, spelt and acorn coffee, regional beers, wines and liqueurs.
The Polish stand was officially opened on 16 January by representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD): Minister Stefan Krajewski and Secretary of State Jacek Czerniak, Jan Tombinski – chargé d’affaires at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Berlin, deputies of the Director General of the KOWR: Lucjan Zwolak and Leszek Iwaniuk, as well as Chief Veterinarian Paweł Meyer. Minister Krajewski received Alois Rainer – Germany’s Minister of Agriculture, Food and Regional Identity, EU Agriculture Commissioner Christophe Hansen and Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner at the national stand. Representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the KOWR hold numerous bilateral talks at the Polish stand and on the trade fair grounds with ministers of agriculture from EU and non-EU countries participating in the World Summit of Ministers of Agriculture accompanying the trade fair.
Each day of the fair, the national stand hosts culinary demonstrations and tastings conducted by Polish chefs, organised by the KOWR and the individual regions, introducing visitors to the Berlin fair to the flagship dishes and variety of Polish cuisine. An additional attraction at the Polish stand during the first weekend of the fair is the representatives of the Rural Housewives’ Circle Zakocie ‘Wygodni Zakociacy’ from Masovia – the winner of the final of the 10th national culinary competition ‘Battle of the Regions’ in 2025.
Organised since 1926 and held in the halls of Messe Berlin, the Green Week has been popular with Berliners and visitors from outside the German capital for years and is an excellent opportunity, especially for small businesses, to present regional and niche food products to final consumers. The event promotes local products and regional specialities from different countries.
