The fair continues the tradition of Africa’s Big 7, previously held in Johannesburg, in which KOWR participated in 2016-2018.

Six entrepreneurs looking for importers and distributors for their products in South Africa and other Southern African countries exhibited at the KOWR stand. Under the “Poland tastes good” banner, products such as sweets and chocolate products, pasta, frozen vegetables, beef, collagen drinks, protein supplements, protein sweets and dietary supplements were promoted in Cape Town.

Africa Food Show focuses on connecting global suppliers with African buyers, wholesalers and distributors, facilitating expansion into one of the fastest-growing food markets in the world.

South Africa is one of the most developed and diversified countries in Africa. Its advanced industry and financial sector, modern infrastructure, rich natural resources and population of approximately 63 million make it a regional economic centre and one of the most attractive places to begin building a presence and business relationships on the African continent.

The South African market is dominated by large corporations; in retail, these include major chains such as Shoprite, Pick n Pay, Woolworths and Spar Group. The retail market is segmented by consumer income. Retail chains operate from the mass segment to the premium segment, which means that offers should be tailored to customer needs and positioned accordingly.

On 9 June, the day before the fair, Polish exhibitors visited stores of the following South African retail chains: Boxer, Pick n Pay and Checkers. The store-check was organised in cooperation with the PAIH Foreign Trade Office in Johannesburg.

For years, European Union countries have dominated among recipients of Polish agri-food products, accounting for 75% of Polish exports in this category. Some agri-food companies, however, are boldly seeking market niches on other continents and diversifying their sales markets. Their attention is increasingly turning to countries on the African continent. In 2025, the largest exports to the region went to Algeria (EUR 279.19 million), the Democratic Republic of the Congo (EUR 162.53 million), Senegal (EUR 159.71 million), Egypt (EUR 104.33 million) and South Africa (EUR 97.95 million). Last year, South African importers purchased from Poland, among others, wheat, bread, pastry products, cakes and biscuits.

Africa Food Show 2026 Exhibitor Catalogue – EN

On 10 June 2026, the three-day Africa Food Show opened in Cape Town, where KOWR is organising the Polish national stand for the second time.
